Brown will be expanding the SMART Plus Pathways model to the Ella Risk Elementary School in Central Falls. This is a two-pronged project. The SMART school-based clinic will promote students’ academic success by providing comprehensive physical and behavioral healthcare to students in underserved communities. The Pathways program will create a comprehensive pathway for these students so that they can pursue careers as healthcare professionals. While other pathways exist, this is the first time that a medical school has partnered with a SMART Clinic to create a pathway; this project will therefore act as a model for medical schools throughout the country.
