In recognition of a $100,000,000 gift from The Warren Alpert Foundation in 2007, Brown University Corporation approved naming Brown’s medical school in honor of businessman, entrepreneur, philanthropist and foundation founder, Warren Alpert.
The gift helped finance the remodeling of a Brown owned building that houses classrooms, administrative offices, and other instructional spaces for The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University. The new space affords room for the projected increase in size of the medical classes and for innovative teaching facilities. The gift additionally supports an endowment to establish the Warren Alpert Scholars Program, a fund to support biomedical research, faculty recruitment, endowed professorships and an endowment to support faculty-designed innovations in medical education.
In 2016 to bolster its commitment to The Warren Alpert Medical School, the Warren Alpert Foundation gifted an additional $27,000,000 to establish the Warren Alpert Physician Scientist MD/PhD Program, The Warren Alpert Professorship for Translational Science, the Medical Professorship Fund and Medical Faculty Current Use fund.
